The Kalam hotel assosiation has offered tourist 10 days free stay at hotels in the tourist destination of Madyan, Bahrain and Kalam . The offer is not properly publicised but the assosiation has asked tourist from across the country to visit the scenic valley of Swat form January 1 to 10
Summer tourism season ended a while ago in the valley but hoteliers said it was an effort to attract sightseers to Swat, once the hotspot of tourism. They said it would also promote winter tourism as people could enjoy the snowfall
Rahmatuddin Sadique the General Secretary of the hotel assosiation said the government aggred to bulit another ski resort in Kalam as the one in Malam Jabba is in dilapiated and suffered damage after Taliban captured it in 2008.
The NWFP government’s representatives met the owners of the hotels on December 20 to prepare a strategy for putting tourism sector back on track. They agreed to take several steps in this regard including repairing the Mingora-Kalam Road and Mataltan-Mahodhand Road and providing interest-free loan to the hotel owners, who suffered huge losses during the last three years. Sadique said they had finalised all arrangements to provide free stay to the visitors. “We have selected five hotels in Kalam alone and will offer more if needed,” he said.
there are about 25 to 30 military check posts from Mingora to Kalam but the military authorities had assured them to reduce their number to encourage tourists.
Rahmatuddin Sadique said the tourists would buy food, fruits, embroideries and other local goods and thus help in reviving the economy. He said the army might hold a musical show to entertain tourists. He said until now they had not received any tourist in Swat.
